Hot Club Sandwich

Hot Club Sandwich started in 1992 at a Radio NZ recording session at which pianist Terry Crayford and guitarist/singer Andrew London collaborated for the first time.  Lots of jazz standards were recorded in a continental 'Hot Club' style and such a splendid time was had that they decided to do some gigs with a third party invited to be the Sandwich 'filling'.

Over the last 15 years they have played well over 1000 live gigs with guitarists, violinists (including Fiona Pears), sax players, bass players and harmonica players making up the trio.  They have played Arts and Jazz Fesitvals in Wanaka, Nelson, Christchurch, Tauranga, Wanganui, Taranaki, Hawkes Bay, Manawatu, Hokianga, Wellington, Taupo, Norfolk Island and Australia.

Their repertoire started off with jazz standards but they now play blues, country, folk and original songs, which explore topical cultural themes such as television evangelists, care culture, couch potato rugby fans, fashion victims, dishonest politicans and their relationships with technology.

Humour playes a large part in their live shows and everyone has a good time at a typical Hot Club Sandwich gig.

HCS play regularly at a variety of venues around Wellington and the lower North Island - their mail monthly 'showcase' occurring on the first Friday of every month at Wellington's fabulous Old St Paul's Cathedral which is given a 'cafe' look for the evening.

They have released seven CDs to date and a DVD 'Get Sandwiched' in 2008.  Their CD 'Toasted' was given a rare four-star review in Downbeat Magazine, the world's most long standing and widest-read jazz publication.
